Q U O T E S

"Respect life, revere life. There is nothing more holy than life, nothing more divine than life. "

"The religious man has no obsession . His life is simple, natural , spontaneous, moment to moment. He has no great ideas that he wants to bring to the world. He has no great ideologies that he wants to impose on humanity. "

"When mind knows, we call it knowledge. When heart knows, we call it love. And when being knows, we call it meditation. "

"The authentic question is, " Who am I?" And the only way to know is to be silent, be alert, be aware, watch your thoughts, and let them disappear. One day, you will find all has become silent…not even a murmue of thought. Everything has stopped, as if time has stopped. And suddenly you are awake from a long, long dream, from a nightmare. "

"There is only one door which can help you, and that is within you. Taking a jump into yourself, you have plunged into existence. In that moment you feel a tremendous oneness with all. Then you are no longer lonely , no longer alone, because there is nobody who is other than you."

"There is only you expanded in all directions, in all possible manifestations. It is you flowring in the tree; it is you moving in the white cloud. It is you in the ocean, in the river. It is you in the animals, in the people. "

"Just count how many thoughts are your own. All are from other sources, all are borrowed – either dumped by others on you, or foolishly dumped by yourself upon yourself. But nothing is yours. "

"Remember one criterion: anything precious is only that which you know. And there is no way to lose that which you know. Anythng that can be lost, and which you have to cling to, cannot be precious because it can be lost. That shows that it is not your experience. "

"People say that I am brainwashing people. No, I am not brainwashing people, I am certainly washing their brains – and I believe in dry cleaning.. "

"We can manage to live better, we can manage to live longer, we can manage to live more comfortably – but we cannot know what life is. That question will remain a question until the very end. "

"I am not promising you any kingdom of God. You are not going to inherit anything. You have already inherited it – that is your life. Be loving and respectful to it."

"My whole approach is to give you back to yourself. You have been stolen. You have been covered, conditioned in every possible way. They have closed all the doors of approach to yourself. My whole work is just to make doors and windows in you. And if I can withdraw all the walls and leave you just an open sky, you will know what religion is."

"If you become aware of something, then there is a possiblity that something can be done to change it. "

"People have lived in misery, accepting it as part of life, as their destiny. Nobody has questioned it. Nobody has asked why. "

"There is something of immense importance about truth: Unless you find it, it never becomed truth to you. If it is somebody else's truth and you borrow it, in that very borrowing it is no longer true – it has become a lie."

"The priests are the greatest condemn in the world. They have sold things which nobody has seen, which nobody is ever going to see. "

"Truth comes only to the rebellious, and to be a rebel is certainly to live dangerously. "

"You have to drop your answers. Drop them, and I will kill your questions. The day there is no question and no answer within you, and you are just sitting here empty – you have come home. "

"I teach you to be authentic, integrated individuals with immense self-respect. "

"The moment you are unburdened, you can open your wings into the vast existence that has been awaiting and awaiting you. "

"Only you can redeem you, and that is by stopping others fettering you, putting more and more heavy chains on you, making bigger and bigger walls around you. You are your own messiah, your own salvation. "

Introduction

Over a thirty-five year period hundreds of thousands of people from every walk of life were drawn to Osho. They asked questions, he answered. They read sutras to him, and he talked about them. The talks were recorded, and later filmed on video, transcribed into hundreds of books and translated into dozens of languages.

In the process, every tradition in the history of consciousness has been revisited for contemporary people. As each is teased apart and explained in the modern context, we can find the essential thread running through our history down to each one of us today. From the meaning of life and death to the struggles of power and politics, from the challenges of love and creativity to the significance of science and education. What is this mystery called existence? Where did meditation come from? Can we learn anything from Taoism? What is happiness? Why am I discontented? Where did my guilt come from? What is hope? Who am I?

Is there life after death? Asks one. Better you ask if there is life after birth, comes the reply. Here you will find the spiritually incorrect mystic at work, demolishing our sacred cows, one by one, in exquisite detail. With compassion and humor our insanities are laid out before us, leaving us with that uniquely human option of growing up rather than simply growing old.

Each talk is given "off-the cuff," extemporaneously without notes. And each has its own context. And when answering questions, the primary purpose is always to answer the questioner rather than the question. It is the individual and his or her transformation that is important, not just the words.

And finally a note of caution from the author:

"Always remember, whatsoever I say to you, you can take it in two ways. You can simply take it on my authority, ’Because I say so, it must be true’ -- then you will suffer, then you will not grow. Whatsoever I say, listen to it, try to understand it, implement it in your life, see how it works, and then come to your own conclusions. They may be the same, they may not be. They can never be exactly the same because you have a different personality, a unique being. Whatsoever I am saying is my own. It is bound to be in deep ways rooted in me. You may come to similar conclusions, but they cannot be exactly the same. So my conclusions should not be made your conclusions. You should try to understand me, you should try to learn, but you should not collect knowledge from me, you should not collect conclusions from me. Then your mind-body will grow.

"My message is not a doctrine, not a philosophy. My message is a certain alchemy, a science of transformation."
